People of St Mary's
At St Mary's we focus hugely on Catholic Social Teaching. Our children and families support that through fundraising and supporting each other and the community. Our events support families, and raise money directly for our children. Whilst we always want to raise funds to help, the main aim is to bring our community together - Church (es) - with our pupils also living in the Whalley Church area, families, business, and those in need.
We have a range of events throughout the year to raise money for school but also charities near and far, they include:
- Raffles - local businesses support us hugely and in turn, our families are drawn to those businesses and support local start ups and established families.
- Film nights - our children experience film night snacks and films.
- Afternoon teas - Our Wonderful Women's Day celebrates women in our community with cakes and refreshments and time with our children to enjoy together. We also have a Marvellous Men event. Both are incredibly well attended and supported, and the children love their special people being in school.
- Christmas Shop - Our children get a chance to choose things for their loved ones that are wrapped for them. This is particularly lovely for any children needing support to give to their loved ones.
- Discos - We all love Mrs Mackey's turn on the DJ Decks with her version of Mini Disco at St Mary's! It is wonderful to see the children having fun in a traditional disco / party environment.
- Family Fun Nights - We bring everyone together for quiz/bingo and general catching up.
- Non-Uniform Days - Our children love expressing themselves a little more freely and raising money for a variety of causes.
- Christmas and Summer Fairs - our much loved community events, where if Miss Boden can shoe horn a visiting animal (donkeys/alpacas...) into the proceedings, it all adds to the fun!
Every person who joins in can join big or small. We are just grateful for any support, be it running a stall, wrapping presents or sourcing them at a good price, finding an animal attraction (!), donating raffle prizes, supervising discos or running the tuck shop. We have such a fabulous community, and have grandparents, parents and carers all giving their time to support us. We are very lucky, and hope to keep paying forward to our community and beyond.
We are always keen to enlist more support for events and new ideas are always welcomed. If you would like to get involved in the PTA please ask in school or contact Mrs Beaghan on j.beaghan@st-marys-langho.lancs.sch.uk.
