Physical Education

Miss Dixon (Y1/2) is Subject Lead for PE.

We are a team at St Mary's and likewise we are competitive as a team and when necessary as individuals! We have successes in sport, with talented gymnasts, children succeeding in martial arts, ice skating, ice hockey, football, netball, swimming, running, cricket and many other sports. We are incredibly lucky to have access to many clubs and teams in the Ribble Valley and the North West and we like to make the most of them! We have a  Multi Use Games Area for all weather activities, an outdoor gym, as well as an all weather running track, and we practice Mile a Day as part of our wellbeing in school. We also have a trim trail installed in 2025, and a climbing wall! Clubs we run in school include yoga, gymnastics, football, Soccer HQ, running, netball and many more!

We love having visitors such as a paralympian, successful women's and men's footballers, yoga teachers, a great deal whom are parents and community also. We are very lucky to find opportunities and have them volunteered to us!

Meet Our PE Ambassadors!

Our Wonderful Athletes.

Our first featured athlete is a talented triathlete! He shares insights into his training routine and offers inspiring advice to motivate others on their own fitness journeys.

Our next athlete focus is an ice skater — hold tight for our upcoming interview!

During Autumn 1, we took part in a range of exciting sporting events! We attended a Traditional Sports Day Festival, where we finished in first place, and a Hockey Sticks Festival, where we learned new tactics to use in future games. Our teams also competed in a Girls’ Football Tournament, the Kids’ Cup Football competition—where we qualified for the next round—and the Football League. In addition, we participated in a Cross Country event, achieving an impressive third place, with five of our runners qualifying for the next round. To top it off, we also joined the Netball Bee Stingers event!
We’ve had another busy and exciting half term of sporting events during Autumn 2!

Our Year 6 children took part in playground leader training, which they have thoroughly enjoyed putting into practice during lunchtimes to help all children achieve 60 active minutes. We have also enjoyed embedding a whole-school initiative of completing a ‘mile a day’ at the end of lunchtime.

Children in Years 3 and 4 attended a football competition. The whole school joined in with the virtual Santa Dash.

Across the term, we continued to participate in our Girls’, A Team and B Team football leagues. We were delighted to welcome Tag Sport into school to work with different classes for an afternoon, and Soccer HQ have been running a popular after-school club alongside our Yoga club. Our morning Run Club and Fundamental Movement Skills club have also continued throughout Autumn 2.
A special thank you to Kat Boyle, who kindly visited our school to teach our Year 2 children an energetic and exciting dance routine to perform in their nativity. We hope to invite Kat back in to teach the staff a dance routine too!

The PE Ambassadors are working hard to form strong community links with local padel and sporting clubs.

As we are now a Junior Parkrun Primary, the PE Ambassadors delivered an assembly to inform all pupils and invited them to join us at our local parkrun.
